Students

We aim to empower our students and encourage active engagement in their learning and school life. Research indicates that this approach, especially when families are involved, significantly improves learning outcomes.

Teachers plan tasks that cater to students’ varying levels, needs, and abilities. Assessments are designed to enhance skills, knowledge, and understanding. Results are published continuously as tasks are completed for students and parents to view. Academic reports are published once each semester. Each term, reports on learning skills are provided. Students are encouraged to reflect on their strengths and areas for improvement, which is integral to their learning journey.

Student Wellbeing

Our school has two sub-schools: Junior School (Years 7-9) and Senior School (Years 10-12). All students receive support from Student Learning Leaders (Junior School) and House Leaders (Senior School) to ensure their success and wellbeing. These leaders are the main contact points for parents and oversee the progress of students in their care. Every student has a Learning Mentor, a unique feature of Camberwell High School. Students meet with their mentor weekly where their learning and wellbeing is tracked.

In the Junior School, Student Learning Leaders are responsible for each year level, while House Leaders in the Senior School oversee students in the four Houses throughout their three years.

Each sub-school also has a leader and Assistant Principal who monitor students and oversee programs at their respective levels.

Additionally, our Student Wellbeing Coordinators and Mental Health Practitioner offer one-to-one counselling and run programs tailored to students’ developmental stages. Students can seek help directly from wellbeing staff or be referred by a parent or staff member. Guidance is readily available for any student concern.

Student Leadership

Our school provides many opportunities for student leadership, empowering students to actively contribute to school development and community building. Year 12 and Year 9 students hold leadership roles including School Captains, SRC Presidents, and House Captains, serving as role models and representatives of the school.

These student leaders meet weekly with the Principal to discuss school matters and ensure student voices are heard through a termly student forum. Their contributions are integral to the school’s ongoing improvement and create a sense of responsibility for the learning environment. Key events including the Talent Quest and Battle of the Bands are led by students each term. Forums are organised by the Principal in consultation with student leaders on important topics of concern or interest.

Student Pathways and Careers

Students receive guidance and support throughout their school journey. They are exposed to various experiences to aid in their pathway decisions, including university visits, information sessions for parents and students, course counselling interviews, and a school-based Tertiary Careers Expo evening.

As students progress, we encourage them to plan for their future and set goals. The Careers Program plays a pivotal role in helping students align their subject choices with their career aspirations.

In the Senior School, the Careers Office provides ongoing support, communicating with students and parents about Careers days, university visits, and guest speakers. They also provide students with ample information to make informed decisions, and both parents and students are encouraged to reach out for further assistance.
