Students

We aim to empower our students and encourage active engagement in their learning and school life. Research indicates that this approach, especially when families are involved, significantly improves learning outcomes.

Teachers plan tasks that cater to students’ varying levels, needs, and abilities. Assessments are designed to enhance skills, knowledge, and understanding. Results are published continuously as tasks are completed for students and parents to view. Academic reports are published once each semester. Each term, reports on learning skills are provided. Students are encouraged to reflect on their strengths and areas for improvement, which is integral to their learning journey.

Student Leadership

Our school provides many opportunities for student leadership, empowering students to actively contribute to school development and community building. Year 12 and Year 9 students hold leadership roles including School Captains, SRC Presidents, and House Captains, serving as role models and representatives of the school.

These student leaders meet weekly with the Principal to discuss school matters and ensure student voices are heard through a termly student forum. Their contributions are integral to the school’s ongoing improvement and create a sense of responsibility for the learning environment. Key events including the Talent Quest and Battle of the Bands are led by students each term. Forums are organised by the Principal in consultation with student leaders on important topics of concern or interest.

Student Wellbeing

At Camberwell High School, we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where every student can flourish. We recognise that student wellbeing is fundamental to academic success and personal growth, and we place equal importance on nurturing the social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of our students.

Our wellbeing team is made up of psychologists, social workers and counsellors. Wellbeing staff work closely with external health and wellbeing services to ensure all students have the support they need.

Meet our wellbeing team:
Leo (student wellbeing counsellor/social worker)
Rachel (mental health practitioner)
Clare (student inclusion & wellbeing counsellor)

We offer several wellbeing-focused programs for our students:
o One on one support with social workers, counsellors or psychologists
o Lunch time clubs for all ages
o Workshops like Man Cave, Big Sister Program, Respectful Relationships Victoria, Project Rocket with more planned for 2026
o Partnership with Foodbank offering healthy snacks in the wellbeing hub

In 2025, The Wellbeing Hub was set up to complement classroom learning by offering students a place to pause, reflect, access helpful resources and engage in activities that build resilience, emotional regulation and positive relationships.

The Wellbeing Hub provides quiet, calm space that helps students to manage different sensory needs so they can return to class feeling calm and ready to learn.

The Wellbeing Hub holds lunchtime clubs that encourage students to build friendships, express creativity or take time to recharge. In 2025, our lunchtime clubs included:
• Knitting
• Art – recent projects included making ‘The Wall of Kindness’, friendship bracelets and posters for R U OK week
• DIY worry dolls
• Collage club
• Sticker club – making stickers related to health and nutrition

Wellbeing staff work closely with the International School Program to support the international students and their wellbeing. Programs like the after-school fitness club support student’s physical and emotional health as well as their sense of belonging in our school community.

Student Pathways and Careers

Students receive guidance and support throughout their school journey. They are exposed to various experiences to aid in their pathway decisions, including university visits, information sessions for parents and students, course counselling interviews, and a school-based Tertiary Careers Expo evening.

As students progress, we encourage them to plan for their future and set goals. The Careers Program plays a pivotal role in helping students align their subject choices with their career aspirations.

In the Senior School, the Careers Office provides ongoing support, communicating with students and parents about Careers days, university visits, and guest speakers. They also provide students with ample information to make informed decisions, and both parents and students are encouraged to reach out for further assistance.
