Top Class 2025 (Music)
From leading as School Captain to excelling academically, Oliver Clarke has left a lasting impact on our school community. His Camberwell High experience was one of resilience and kindness, inspiring those around him to embrace growth and strive for greatness.
Oliver was selected to represent our school at Top Class (Music) 2025. He performed his Music Repertoire Performance piece, Viking Saga, by Adrian Hallam at Melbourne Recital Centre On Thursday 20 March.
Top Class is an annual concert series presented by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) showcasing outstanding performances by VCE and VCE VET students from schools across the state. In 2025, 183 top performing students were considered by expert panels for Top Class Music and Sound from VCE 2024, and only 48 students were selected to perform.
Congratulations, Oliver.

Victorian Global Learning Awards 2024
The 12th annual Victorian Global Learning Awards for 2024 were a celebration and recognition of what brings us together, the strength of Victoria’s international relationships and the esteem with which Victoria is held internationally for global learning and engagement. Most importantly it was a celebration of our students, teachers, parents, principals and homestay families, and the contribution they make to our schools and community.
We congratulate two of our students who received Commendation Awards in recognition of their achievements:
Year 11 Arts Achievement (Performing Arts): Hiu Yan (Esther)
Esther skilfully showcased her transformation abilities in her VCE Drama solo performance, portraying 13 distinct characters and differentiating them using expressive skills such as vocals, movements, gestures and props. Choosing satire as the convention and contrast as the dramatic element, she deftly navigated character developments to convey the transformation from fear to fearlessness against stereotypes. Her work emphasised empowerment, addressed negative perceptions towards older women and promoted gender equality.
Throughout her studies, Esther consistently demonstrated resilience, creativity and camaraderie. An active contributor to the school’s music program, she participated in bands, concerts and musical productions, and showcased her talents in harp solos. As an international student, Esther faced cultural differences in approaching drama, particularly in navigating the challenges of Aussie slang. But she still found time to support her peers, creating a collaborative environment, providing positive feedback and encouraging group work for shared problem solving.
Year 12 Student Leadership: Shengyi (Steve) Li
Steve exhibited strong leadership skills as School Captain (2023) and International Student Voice Ambassador. Spearheading initiatives for inclusive decision making, Steve advocated for International Student Captains’ participation in weekly school management meetings, providing an opportunity to integrate international student voice. He organised impactful activities that addressed diversity, mental health and cultural understanding. Steve’s commitment extended to fundraising events and facilitation of Multicultural Week, fostering unity between local and international students.
Steve initiated the International Student Buddy program, easing the transition for new international students and collaborating with staff to bring in guest speakers to guide students through various challenges. Steve’s resilience during remote learning and his genuine gratitude to those who assisted him remain impressive. He not only excelled academically but actively engaged in school life, showcasing a collaborative and supportive attitude. Steve is currently studying a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne.
