Our People

Jill Laughlin, Principal

Jill was appointed Principal at Camberwell High School in April 2010. Her experience has resulted in a student-centred educational vision. Her current work is focused on embedding the learning landscape, which she has developed and led in collaboration with the school community over the past 14 years.

Jill commenced her teaching career at Horsham High School in 1982. She taught at Springvale Secondary College during the mid to late 1980s and in this time taught many students from Vietnamese refugee backgrounds. Jill realised that she needed skills, knowledge and understanding to respond effectively to the learning needs of these students. She commenced a post graduate qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages in 1990.

She worked at Dandenong High School from 1994 until 2010 and in this time took on many roles including Literacy, year level coordination, Professional Learning and Curriculum Coordination. Jill completed a Masters of Education in ESL while teaching at Dandenong. She led the ESL program at Dandenong High for 6 years, a significant role, in a school where most students use English as a second language and 25% are refugees. From 2006 Jill was an Assistant Principal and member of the school leadership team developing the vision and framework for the new school, merging 3 schools into one and developing and constructing a new school on the existing Dandenong site.

Maureen Salter, Assistant Principal

Maureen has been teaching in state education for many years working in secondary and tertiary areas. Assistant Principal of Camberwell High School since 2005, she has taught in her fields of passion being History and English. Maureen’s role as Assistant Principal has many fulfilling facets, however she finds greatest meaning interacting with students on a one-to-one basis in the classroom whenever possible.

I love the fact that Camberwell High School is ever changing in order to meet the needs and challenges of its young people and its community. I embrace these changes and challenges as it ensures that the uniqueness of every student who comes to study with us has opportunities to develop and extend themselves and be recognised for their various forms of individuality.

Emmanuel Skoutas, Assistant Principal

Emmanuel began teaching Philosophy and English and, in an unplanned way, has always been a member of the Camberwell High School community. He first attended the school as a student in the late 70’s and returned as a parent before being appointed Assistant Principal in July 2018.

Being an educator at Camberwell High School is a privileged vocation. For me, teaching is like no other experience because it brings people together with the aim of guiding young people to grow, understand themselves and others and use their skills to influence change for a better future.
