Co-curricular Programs

As well as having an active classroom music program from Years 7 to 12, Camberwell High School’s instrumental music program features four concert bands, four stage bands, three string ensembles and a choir. Music is well regarded and valued highly by the school community, and Camberwell High School is well recognised in the wider community as an excellent school for music.

Each year the music department at Camberwell High School runs a busy schedule of events, with groups performing regularly at school and community events, concerts and festivals and participating in intensive rehearsal camps. Senior ensembles undertake local, interstate and international tours, to locations that have included Canada, Europe, and the USA in recent years. These trips provide invaluable performance and travel opportunities for those who are prepared to work hard and earn themselves coveted places in these high level groups. Other regular musical events at the school include a biennial production, and the popular student-run Battle of the Bands.

Sports Co-curricular Program

As well as the extensive Health, PE & Sports program offered as part of the curriculum at Camberwell High School, we also provide great opportunities to participate in Co-curricular Sports and competition. Students gain many benefits from being involved in sport, including teamwork and leadership skills, increased physical fitness, the chance to try different sports, and developing positive relationships with their peers.

In the Junior School, team selection for Interschool Sport is predominantly done through Sport Education, where students show an aptitude or interest in playing competitively. The exceptions are Swimming, Athletics and Cross-Country wherein students placing at the whole School Sports Carnivals determine their selection.

In the Senior School, sporting teams are selected based on student interest, training and then team selection. Students with enthusiasm for sport can try out for the sport of their choice and go on to participate in Senior Interschool Competition. We offer several non-VSSSA (Victorian Secondary Schools Sporting Association) sports at the Senior School level, such as All-schools Netball.

Interschool Sports include:

  • Basketball
  • Badminton
  • Netball
  • AFL Football
  • Cross Country
  • Soccer
  • Softball
  • Baseball
  • Cricket
  • Hockey
  • Volleyball
  • Tennis
  • Swimming
  • Athletics
  • Table Tennis

Camps & Tours

Camberwell High School offers many camps and tours designed to build responsibility, team work, initiative, empathy and optimism.

Challenging camps are offered throughout all year levels, beginning with the Orientation Camp for Year 7 students, which gives all new students an opportunity to meet and get to know their new peers. A trip to Wollangarra for year 8 students is a more challenging, optional camp involving outdoor activities and camping. The Year 9 Connections program runs a camp in the King Lake ranges that incorporates hiking, community work and further outdoor challenges.

In the Senior School many of the camps and tours are subject-based, including a Geography camp to Wahalla. Camberwell High School provides many opportunities for overseas travel through Language studies, Classics tours, Music tours and the World Challenge. In recent years students have visited the USA, Canada, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Borneo, Nepal and South Africa.

Lunchtime Activities

As well as sporting activities there are always things happening at Camberwell High School to keep students occupied and interested. Table tennis can be played in the Hub at lunch time. The Sports Hall is in constant use for sports training and inter-class competitions are held at different times during the year. Music students often rehearse informally during lunchtime and the Library is available for extended reading and private study. Basketballs can be borrowed by Junior school students for lunchtime play and many students will bring their own.
