The Careers Program places focus on student aptitude and interest and helps students understand the world beyond school.

Years 9 & 10

As part of their elective subjects in Year 9, students begin to explore the possible pathways available through and beyond school. Within the Connections program, Year 9 students undertake a term-long careers unit, including a research activity into the World of Work.

In Year 10 all students undertake one week of Work Experience to provide an opportunity to work in an area they are considering. Students source their own placement in an industry of interest, allowing them real-world experience of that industry.

Course counselling offers consultation with both parents and students in Years 9 and 10 to assist them in subject selections based on the student’s strengths and future plans. This guidance also ensures students meet prerequisites for future study and /or employment.

All Year 10 students have the opportunity to meet with the careers staff to help them develop a career action plan as part of their Managed Individual Pathways (MIPs) Plan.

Years 11 & 12

In 2011 Camberwell High School introduced a Tertiary Expo for students in Years 9-12 to provide an insight into a broad spectrum of tertiary options and employment fields. Presenters are invited to the school from all Victorian Universities and TAFE Institutes to talk about their course offerings. This provides vital information for senior students to guide their final subject selection and to assist them to plan their transition from school to further education, training or employment.

The majority of our students undertake tertiary education following completion of their secondary education. Other students choose to enter an apprenticeship or elect to take a Gap Year. All students are aided in the transition process and the school careers staff ensure that each student is well prepared for their pathway beyond school. Every student who intends to undertake tertiary study is assisted in completing the tertiary application process through interviews and briefings to help them chose an appropriate and realistic selection of courses.

The Careers Office is located in the VCE Centre  and can be visited by current students and parents at any time. Contact the school for more information.
